MANILA, Philippines –The local government of Manila supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to Mayor Honey Lacuna.

“The local government of Manila supports our President’s call regarding the impeachment,” Lacuna told reporters in Filipino during a chance interview at the Quirino Grandstand on Monday.

Lacuna likewise revealed she attended Iglesia Ni Cristo’s “National Rally of Peace,” to join the church’s call for unity within the government.

“The Manila City is here to join calls for unity and peace,” the mayor said in Filipino.

As of 10 a.m. the crowd estimate monitored in the area has already reached 1.5 million, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

PNP said it deployed 5,500 personnel to ensure public safety during the rally.

For her part, Lacuna said no untoward incidents were monitored within Manila amid the rally’s observance.
