The case filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with a scuffle on the Parliament premises has been transferred to Delhi Police's Crime Branch on Friday.

"We have transferred the case from local police to the Crime Branch," a senior officer told PTI, adding that police are likely to record the statements of Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput and may also call Gandhi for questioning.

On Thursday, a police case was filed against Gandhi based on a complaint lodged by Union Minister Anurag Thakur with the Delhi Police alleging assault and incitement.

The FIR has been registered under sections 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Commenting on the investigation, a senior official told PTI that police would seek access to CCTV footage of the area where the incident occurred and also reach out to media houses to inquire about any video evidence they may have. Police will also recreate the scene of crime if required during the investigation, the source said.

MPs injured, BJP files case against Rahul Gandhi

The entire political chaos stemmed from the war of words in connection with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's controversial "Ambedkar is the fashion" remark.

Several MPs of the INDIA bloc, including Congress leaders Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest in Parliament premises on Wednesday demanding Home Minister Amit Shah's apology for his remarks which they claimed were an insult to B R Ambedkar.

According to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, two BJP MPs - Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput - were "seriously injured" by Rahul Gandhi while Congress party supremo Mallikarjun Kharge said his knees had been hurt in the protests.

Both Sarangi and Rajput were taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital after getting injured when the protesting INDIA bloc and the BJP MPs came face to face in front of Makar Dwar in Parliament.

Congress too lodges case over ruckus outside parliament

Firmly rejecting the BJP's claims, the Congress alleged that BJP MPs pushed Congress chief Kharge and "physically manhandled" Gandhi. The Congress also lodged a complaint in connection with the matter on Thursday.

A delegation of Congress MPs, including Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, filed the complaint visiting the station in person.

On Friday, police have sought legal advice on registering a separate FIR in response to a complaint filed by the Congress, accusing BJP MPs of misbehaving with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on the Parliament premises.

One did not realise the enormity of this feat. Harmanpreet is basically a defensive midfielder in footballing parlance and to score 200 goals, is truly a great achievement.

"We are taking legal opinion if the Congress leaders' complaint can be converted into the FIRhola play," another police officer said, adding that a decision on this will be taken soon.
